HELP

"When enough people speak up,
they will have no choice but to hear us."

1. One of the easiest things to do as I said in my vision statement was to "THINK BEFORE YOU BUY". If you do not NEED the shoes, bags, jackets or couch etc made from animals then DON'T BUY THEM!  (PLEASE do not ever buy FUR... aside from rampant abuse, many tags are mislabeled when it really may be dog and cat fur)

2. Buy products from animal-friendly companies, PETA has a list of them on their web-site, none of whom test on animals. Including - Almay, Aveda, Avon, The Body Shop, Burt's Bee's, La Prairie, Nexxus, M.A.C, Mary Kay, Nivea, Norelco, Pathmark brand, Origins, Paul Mitchell, PETGUARD, Prescriptives, Revlon, Rusk, Sebastian, Stila, Tom's of Maine, Wella, Whole Foods (pet food too), Mrs Meyers

AVOID: Arm&Hammer, Axe, Clairol, Clorox, Cover Girl, Colgate-Palmolive, Dial, Dove, Easy Off, L'Oreal, MARS, Max Factor, Oil of Olay, Old English, Oral-B, Pantene, Playtex, Ponds,  Proctor-Gamble, Suave, SoftSoap, Johnson & Johnson, Vaseline, MANY Petfood- IAMS (full list here)

3. Look for free-range chicken and eggs or brown eggs. The brown chickens are too large for those tiny cages and thus roam free. When possible choose fruits and vegetables etc over meat even if it's once in a while. (Baby steps)

4. Next time you are in the market for a new pet, adopt one. Do not buy from a breeder or pet store.  I adopted an incredible Jindo puppy and on the streets of Soho Jake Gyllenhaal stopped me to ask about him as he wanted to go to a breeder. I encouraged adoption and not even a year later he adopted Atticus. (3-4 million animals are euthanized every year due to overpopulation)

5. Sign up on PETA's e-news/e-mail list, it's an easy way to stay informed about online petitions, or letters you can send to get the message across that animal abuse is not something that we, as caring citizens, will tolerate.  Example - HELP SHEEP NOW

6. It is very important to report animal abuse to local authorities (police precinct/ASPCA/humane society).  Did you know that many batterer's target animals before moving on to a child or spouse?

7. It may have seemed harmless on the surface, but bullhook beatings hurt the elephants, lions, bears etc : BAN ALL CIRCUSES!

8. Live cruelty-free for a day, a week or a lifetime.

9. Write letters to voice your opinion: Write to your state's congressmen, it's not as hard as you think. you can email or send a letter to their local or Washington DC office... just pick one (or more) and do it! Ask them what they are doing to protect animals, ask them why the fur trade industry isn't regulated resulting in severe abuses every single day. If there is an issue going on locally like the carriage horses in central park, nyc then write to your mayor. You can find their address with a simple google search of "your city AND mayor's office"  (use letters I wrote to senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Mayor Mike Bloomberg as a reference and make them your own)

10. Write to a local store manger like Burlington Coat Factory and kindly ask them to stop carrying coats with real fur.

11. Consider exploring vegan options for clothing, shoes, cosmetics, handbags- Vegetarian Shoes-Zappos, Alternative Outfitters

12. HOW CAN YOU HELP US YOU ASK??
**Well-thanks for offering! We are in the process of establishing an animal abuse hotline. Thusly, we are compiling a database of local agencies to refer callers to so if you can locate your city, county and/or state's agency responsible for investigating animal abuse PLEASE PLEASE  forward the information on to us.  The quicker we have a comprehensive list, the quicker we can start helping callers help animals.
